Postpartum hair loss!!

Let me tell you something about postpartum hair loss. When I was pregnant with both girls, I developed what I’d like to call “Mommy mane.” My normally fine and fragile hair had turned into something that you’d see on the red carpet. It was thick, strong, long, full of luster, and when I say it never fell out, I mean it quite literally didn’t fall out.
See, when your pregnant, your body goes into this temporary phase where the increased levels of estrogen cause your hair to “freeze” and the hair that would normally fall out, stays put and as a result, you get thicker and more beautiful hair. BUT, the kicker is, after you give birth and your estrogen levels decline, all that hair that was resting....yeah, it starts to fall out. It typically starts the third or fourth month postpartum and ends by six months if you’re lucky. Which means, I still have about three more months of this crap and I’m pretty convinced that I will in fact go bald.
I remember after Paisley was born and I went through this, I literally thought maybe my thyroid was failing me and I was actually going to lose all my hair. No amount of vitamins or hair masks were saving my precious locks from falling out and not only were they clogging the drain WITH the drain guard on, but covering my pillow and all my clothes. I remember looking all over the internet trying to find some sort of reasoning as to why my hair was falling out and I finally came across a website that explained it all to me. See, when you have a baby, people tell you about all the sleep you’ll lose, and how horrible breastfeeding will be and your nipples and boobs will fall off (not literally, I’m not here to terrify anyone). But no one and I mean literally NO ONE tells you about how much hair you will actually lose after this baby comes. it’s something that you have to learn on your own or hope that someone like me is here to blog about it on the internet or that the hair loss was just terrifying enough to your momma and she’ll remember to tell you about it so you’re prepared.
So, if you’ve happened to stumble upon this searching for answers as to what the heck is going on with your hair, I’m here to tell you: it WILL stop falling out, and you WONT go bald. Unfortunately for us fine haired mommas though, your hair will go back to the prepregnancy norm.
