Calling all "Fine" and "Thin" Haired Ladies; I've got a little something for

Up until the tender age of about 10 years old I had tons and TONS of hair. I’m talking down to my hips and the kind of thickness that you could only get the hair tie around twice with a struggle the second time around. Essentially the hair everyone wants right? Why only up until the age of 10 you might ask? Well, ladies and gentleman my wonderful grandma introduced me to this “wonderful” shampoo that made her hair so soft and “super healthy” I begged my mom to buy it, she did, and all my hair fell out. Not kidding. I’m talking id be sitting at the booth at taco bell and when I got up there were wads of hair in the seat. How do I know it was the shampoo you ask? Well mostly because when I stopped using it, the hair stopped falling out, and my poor mother was so worried she had me checked out by my GP and specialists to find out why my hair was falling out like I was going through chemo. My mom even took me to vitamin stores and got me put on something called “Silica” I think it was supposed to help regrow hair? Only issue is…once you stop taking it, all the new regrowth fell out too…great times. After much research I found out that this shampoo does this often (one victim being my mother in law) and its still on the shelves 15 some odd years later, and still doing the same thing to many women so be careful what you use ladies…you may end up looking like this….

Over the years I’ve done EVERYTHING to keep my hair healthy; masks, paraben and sulfate free shampoos and conditioners, hair vitamins, everything. I’ve probably spent $500 plus on just my hair in the last 5 years and it was exhausting. No matter what I tried it was constantly fine, fragile, and would break off past my shoulder blades. BUT, about 4 months ago I discovered my method on getting my hair to actually stay long and healthy so if you’re wanting to know my method, keep reading!!

(Here are some before and after pics…I’ve been on a weight loss journey as well so I don’t have many pics of myself because honestly…I’m self-conscious so this is the best I can get and have of my hair before :LEFT and after: RIGHT)

THING #1: Water, water, water, WATER!! I know its cliché but it really does matter. I drink half my body weight in ounces a DAY (200lbs = 100oz water) and I use this cute little app called “Plant Nanny” to keep me on track. The app allows you to put in how many ounces you need, what size glass you’re drinking and for every glass it “waters” your plant and helps it grow. Sounds cheesy but its SO CUTE!

THING #2: Prenatals. No I’m not joking. Prenatals have the added extras in them that will help your hair grow long and strong. I’ve heard the “gel” prenatals are better because they allow for maximum absorption, but I’ve been using the gummies and I’ve seen results. (Though I’m thinking about gel next time)

THING #3: Evening Primrose Oil. EPO literally has saved not only my skin, but my hair as well. It helps with things like arthritis, PCOS, endometriosis, PMS, helps balance hormones in general, helps acne, eczema, and psoriasis, and lastly, helps with hair loss. Literally look into this vitamin, it does WONDERS for everything.

THING #4: Biotin. I recommend Biotin with Keratin in it. Both help with hair health and regrowth and I think I noticed the biggest difference in my hair once I added this in, though I’ve tried it by itself without an actual “routine” and it didn’t help.

THING #5: For the love of all that is holy stop washing your hair daily. I wash mine every other day and that’s almost too much for my hair. Washing it daily strips your hair of its natural oils and dries it out making it more susceptible to damage. Unless your hair is a giant grease ball, stay away from the showers and even then I recommend training your hair to go longer between washes.

THING #6: Find a shampoo for your hair type!! Stop using “moisturizing shampoos” when your hair has NO volume. I don’t care how damaged it is, stop. I’m also aware that everyone says to use paraben and sulfate free shampoos and conditioners….I’ve learned that it’s not necessary. I legit found the HOLY GRAIL of shampoos and conditioners when I discovered “Elvive.” Ladies and Gents…my hair is a whole new woman since using it. My hair is silky smooth even before hoping out of the shower and there’s not a single knot on the smallest strand when I run my brush through it, it’s like butter. I’ve found out that the Volumizing type works the best for my hair but they’re all amazing.

THING #7: Wet Brush. Just do it.

THING #8: Hair masks. Your hair will thank you, if you’re a fine haired lady like me, I’d suggest not doing it more than once a week. I’ve tried many including coconut oil (which helped minimally and made my hair fall out) but I’ve ultimately settled on “African Pride” olive oil hair mask. Yes I found it in the ethnic hair section and yes this little white girl DID get some looks that day, but guess what? It works.

THING #9: leave in treatments. I use the OGX Moroccan Oil just on my ends and they aren’t breaking off at an extreme rate now. If you’re trying to grow hair out, a leave in is a necessity. It puts a protective barrier on your hair and makes it less susceptible to damage.

THING #10: When you go to bed at night, braid your hair. Braiding it results in less friction on the hair and less breakage, also invest in some scrunchies while you’re at it (the 80s are back with a vengeance) Last but not least

THING #11: STOP WITH THE BLOW DRYER!!! I get it, your hairs all fine and stringy and if you don’t blow dry, it dries to your head and gets greasy. I feel that. But if you absolutely have to, just dry the roots and use a thermal heat shield so you don’t burn off your hair.

Listen, I know this is a lot…I get it. But its my full proof method that’s worked for me and my hair just keeps growing, I can tell it’s getting thicker and I have tons of annoying “baby hairs” growing in and all together it’s really not that much I promise. I’ve been trying for YEARS to get even half the hair I have now, just try it!
